Don’t have a dog?  No problem!  Maricopa County’s Animal Care & Control and Parks and Recreation Departments have united to bring you this program.  You can “test drive” potential canine hiking partners to see how they behave on leash and get along with other dogs, while learning about trail etiquette and safety.  Owned, friendly, leashed dogs that are at least six months old and current on their vaccinations are welcome to join this one-mile trek on our scenic, groomed, Merkle Trail.  Please bring water, closed-toe shoes, and an open heart for a possible new best friend, or two.  This program will be held on the first Saturday of each month from October through March.  Location:  Area 6.

      1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join the Franciscan Friars, dogs, cats, fish, snakes, birds, reptiles, and their owners for our annual Blessing of the Animals.  The blessing is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi patron saint of animals and the environment.  Each animal will receive a certificate of blessing and an opportunity to get a selfie with a Franciscan Friar.

Invite your neighbors, friends and families to bring their pets and service animals.  We ask that you bring a donation of pet food.  Pet food will be distributed to pet owners in need of assistance by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  In addition, Liberty Wildlife will be present with rescued birds of prey.  They will provide opportunities to reflect on how to create wildlife corridors within our own backyards and neighborhoods to support local wildlife.
